WIND CHAMBER MUSIC COURSES

White Hart, Harrogate
Chamber Music for Wind

Next event August 1st, 2009

What makes this world class event a music holiday with a difference? The combination of the best tutors, the organisation of the musical sessions, the music library, the accommodation, the food and the relaxed surroundings.

The next event will assemble on August 1st. 2009.  During the week, there will be eighteen formal playing sessions, three each day, two in the morning and one in the late afternoon. Each lasts around one and half hours. Players are mixed and matched to the music in ways which ensure that all enjoy an event which combines fun, excitement, challenge and relaxation.

Although the event is based around the wind quintet, participants will have the opportunity to play in a wide variety of other ensembles

Few depart without having added substantially to their experience of the wind repertoire. There is an enormous library of music ranging from classical to contemporary, from trios to wind symphonies. We also have a group of resident string players and a pianist, enabling us to include, for example,  Schubert Octets, Spohr Nonets , Poulenc Piano Sextets and Dvorak Serenades.

And it isn’t all work, we always find time to relax as scenes from the not too serious last night concert show.

Players will normally have at least reached grade 8 standard, many are more experienced and participants play with others of a similar standard, at least in the smaller groups. Bookings from quintets who play together are welcome and a number of sessions can be scheduled in which they are coached as a group.
Stalwarts organise additional informal afternoon and evening sessions and some thereby manage to play from nine in the morning until ten at night. Many settle for a blend of the regular sessions supplemented by an occasional light hearted octet. Others restrict themselves to the formal sessions and sample the delights of Harrogate and the Yorkshire dales.
